Biography

Daniel Cavazos is a cellist and educator who grew up in Georgetown, Texas with a bachelor's degree from Texas State University in Music Education. Following graduation, he moved to Dallas to pursue a career as a public school orchestra director, with the goal of providing equitable access to quality string education to diverse communities. 


While attending university, Daniel studied under the esteemed tutelage of Dr. Karla Hamelin, and performed with ensembles including the Texas State Symphony Orchestra and Texas State Chamber Orchestra. He is an avid performer of modern composers and has performed works including the world premieres of Smoke Rings by Dr. Michael Ippolito and Blue Hour Skyline by Kevin Day, as well as the southwest premiere of The Notebooks of Leonardo Da Vinci by Jocelyn Hagen. He has performed in master classes for the Attacca Quartet, Andrew Yee, and Dr. Miranda Wilson. 


An active educator and learner, Daniel taught with the Texas State String Project as well as a group class and private lesson teacher to students grades Pre K-12 and adults. His students have gone on to achieve highly, including first chair in region orchestra and superior ratings at UIL Solo and Ensemble. Daniel continues his study and craft with registered training for Suzuki Books 1-3 with Dr. Shu-Yi Scott and Every Child Can training with Dr. Laurie Sctott emphasizing a pivotal belief that music can and should be accessible to all students.

Daniel is currently a member of several professional organizations including the American String Teachers Association, Texas Music Educators Association, Suzuki Association of the Americas, Kodaly Educators of Texas, American Orff-Schulwerk Association, and Pi Kappa Lambda. He has presented at the National ASTA Convention covering best classroom practices.
